KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 21

Public school teachers have entered the second day of their protest in Kathmandu against certain provisions in the new education bill, which has been registered at the House of Representatives.

Thousands of teachers have converged at a massive protest rally organized by the Nepal Teachers' Federation. The substantial gathering, stretching from Maitighar to New Baneshwor, has caused significant disruptions to traffic in the surrounding areas of New Baneshwor, Maitighar, and the road leading to the Maitighar-New Baneshwor section.

The protesting teachers have put forward an 18-point demand for the government to address before formally presenting the bill for discussion in Parliament. The most prominent issue among their grievances revolves around the provisions granting local governments control over school management, teacher appointments, transfers, demotions, and dismissals.

Meanwhile Kathmandu Metropolitan City has expressed solidarity with several of the teachers' demands, it has also issued a warning. The city authorities have stated that action will be taken against teachers within their jurisdiction if they do not reopen schools starting tomorrow.
