Teachers’ memo to Nepal
Kathmandu, May 12:
The Nepal Teachers’ Union (NTU) yesterday submitted a memorandum to Education Minister Pradip Nepal urging the government to meet their 10-point charter of demands that include formation of a high-level education commission, among others.
NTU president Keshab Prasad Bhattarai said the memorandum was handed over to draw the attention of the Education Minister towards the problems faced by teachers. “The government should meet our 10- point demand at the earliest,” he said.
The teachers’ demands include professional development of teachers, development of monitoring and evaluation mechanism, effective implementation of the report of a sub-committee formed by the government to address the teachers’ problems.
The NTU has demanded that the government provide insurance facility to teachers, allowance for those working in remote areas, provide salary on time and launch programmes to support the teachers and their families victimised by the conflict.
The NTU has also demanded the government solve the problem of temporary teachers.
