Teenage student 'commits suicide' in school toilet

KATHMANDU: Police said a 16-year-old boy committed suicide on the premises of Nepal Model School where he studied on Sunday.

Identified as Sushanta Mainali, a permanent resident of Kavrepalanchok, the student was found hanging in a toilet of the school in Basundhara today, according to Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajganj.

He was  a boarder and student of grade X.

According to preliminary information, Mainali had gone to the toilet at around 9 am before the morning meal in the hostel. Later he was found dead in the toilet, according to police.

A school official told THT Online on the condition of anonymity that a suicide note was recovered from the incident site.

"He has addressed his parents in the note and regretted being unable to meet their expectations," he said, adding that his father had called him up yesterday evening.

"He had talked over phone for around four minutes," he said, "But we did not ask what he talked about."

Some of the relatives who had arrived at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital this afternoon, meanwhile, reportedly informed that the boy was not in good terms with the father. His sister and brother-in-law had taken the guardianship of the boy locally, according to the school source.

He further added that the boy's parents are yet to arrive in the Capital and police and the TUTH have delayed preparations for the autopsy owing to the same reason.

"It is likely that the postmortem will be carried out tomorrow."

"But, this is obviously a suicide case and we should not doubt anything unnecessarily," he claimed.
