Teenagers held on charges of killing, robbing NA soldier

Kathmandu. January 18

Police have arrested three teenagers in connection with the murder of a Nepali Army soldier.

Yubaraj Ghimire, 24, of Khotang district who was residing in Syuchatar, Kathmandu was found dead in Bafal of Nagarjun Municipality-4 on January 12.

SP Pradhyumna Kumar Karki, officiating in-charge of the Metropolitan Police Range, said Pawan Karki of Gorkha, Roshan Pariyar of Sarlahi and Kabindra Bohara of Baitadi were arrested for their alleged involvement in Ghimire’s murder.

Citing preliminary investigation, he informed that the trio stoned Ghimire to death before robbing him in the night.

According to police, Ghimire was on his way home from NA Medical College, where he was stationed, when the teenagers attacked him at around 10:00 pm on January 12 before making off with a laptop computer, an iPhone set, hundred rupees and two ATM cards.

The attackers grew up in the streets and are addicted to drugs. During interrogation, the teenagers told police that they ‘killed Ghimire’ to rob him.

A police official said, “They were waiting for an opportune time to attack someone for robbery and it does not seem to be their premeditated plan to kill Ghimire. They could have killed someone else if not Ghimire.”

The trio had attacked Ghimire with a stone after he tried to resist them. Police have also arrested Rupesh Shrestha, 26, of Kavre from Swayambhu for purchasing the iPhone set that the teenagers robbed the victim of.

Officials have recovered a laptop, iPhone set and two ATM cards bearing the name of Ghimire.
