Temperature dips to 2.5 degrees Celsius

Kathmandu, December 17

Kathmandu valley today witnessed the coldest day of this season with mercury dipping to the lowest at 2.5 degrees Celsius, as recorded by the Meteorological Forecasting Division. Minimum temperature of the valley today was recorded at 2.5 degrees Celsius and maximum at 16.4 degrees Celsius.

In a press statement released today, Meteorological Forecasting Division of Department of Hydrology and Meteorology predicted light rainfall at some places in the eastern and central regions of the country. Likewise, there are chances of light to moderate snowfall at some places of the eastern and central high mountain regions tomorrow.

Temperature in several parts of the country has dropped steadily in the last one week.

Kathmandu’s minimum temperature was measured at three degrees Celsius yesterday and it was five to six degrees Celsius a week ago.

Meanwhile, according to Meteorological Forecasting Division, Jumla’s temperature has also dropped to minus as it measured the lowest at -6 degree Celsius

today.

A meteorologist at Meteorological Forecasting Division said the skies would remain clear throughout the country on December 19.

Winter season starts in Nepal from December when the days are shorter and minimum temperature hits as low as below zero degree Celsius.

Climatic conditions of Nepal vary from one place to another according to their geographical features. In the north, summers are cool and winters severe; while in the south, summers are tropical and winters are mild.
