Thapa for state restructuring

Kathmandu, December 8:

The Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP) has emphasised state restructuring on the basis of co-existence, working alliance, national consensus and reconciliation among the parties.

RJP chairman Surya Bahadur Thapa laid stress on political consensus to end the current stalemate at a press meet today at the end of the party’s central working committee meeting. “National integrity is weakening,” Thapa said.

He urged the government to announce fresh date for the constituent assembly election to avert an “adverse situation”. Thapa, however, ruled out army intervention or king’s comeback if the dates were not announced by December 15. “I don’t see any chances of the king making a comeback,” he said.

Thapa did not seek resignation of PM Girija Prasad Koirala for the current political instability and twice postponement of the CA polls.

“I have always laid emphasis on the elections and said that the fate of monarchy should be left for the people to decide, not the nominated parliament,” the former PM said, referring to the parliament’s directives to the government to “initiate the process for a republic”. The parliament, he said, has no right to decide on a republic.
