Theft, firing suspects held after five months

KATHMANDU: Two persons allegedly involved in stealing money from a cooperative have been arrested after five months of the case.

A group of four people had reportedly broken into the Santaneshwor Saving and Credit Cooperative in Jharuwarashi of Lalitpur and fled with a safe along with some official documents on September 8, 2016.

Arrestees Ningma Lama aka Kumar (27) and Pema Lama aka Aakash (30) of Phakhel in Makawanpur along with two others had been on the run after the incident, the Metropolitan Crime Division said.

On the day of theft, police had intercepted a Tata Sumo heading towards Makawanpur at Chyandanda, Matatirtha of Chandragiri Municipality. The police and the suspects had exchanged fires when the suspects tried to flee the site.

They had left the vehicle and the safe behind.

According to police, Ningma had been driving the Tata Sumo (Na 1 Ja 3948) along the Kathamndu-Sarlahi route since two months before the act.

The arrestees have been sent to the Metropolitan Police Circle, Chapagaun, in Lalitpur for further investigation.
