Thimi youths out to serve society

Madhyapur Thimi, July 6:

The Madhyapur Thimi municipality has employed a number of city volunteers as part of a community development programme that aims to serve the society.

Tulsi Bhakta Tako, community development officer at the municipality, told this daily today, “We have employed 13 city volunteers from the 13 wards of the Thimi municipality for the first time to make people aware of the need to conserve the environment.” Youths aged between 16 and 25 years have been selected as volunteers. The volunteers will interact with the people living in their respective wards and convey concerns of the locals to municipal authorities.

These youths will act as a mediator between municipality and its citizens, Tako said.

In the initial phase, the youth volunteers collected data of child workers in Thimi ward no 15,16 and 17. According to the data, there are 37 child labourers in ward numbers 15, 29 in 16 and 36 in 17.

We will launch a child rescue campaign in collaboration with other organisations after analysing the data, he said.
