Three people, including an Indian national, were arrested with a large quantity of illegal drugs after police opened fire during an anti-narcotics operation in Kathmandu on Sunday.
According to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), a police team from Koteshwor attempted to apprehend suspects allegedly supplying Tramadol to the Kathmandu Valley near Teku Dovan Bridge, of Kathmandu-12, at around 4:10 pm Sunday.
Police said the suspects attacked officers and tried to escape despite warning shots being fired. Officers then fired two rounds, hitting one suspect before bringing the group under control.
The injured suspect, Raj Soni, 25, of Uttar Pradesh, India, sustained gunshot wounds to both thighs and is undergoing treatment at the National Trauma Centre. The other two arrested are Nikhil Soni, 19, of Nepalgunj, and Shophiya Magar, 19, of Surkhet.
Police recovered 24,700 Tramadol capsules and three mobile phones from the suspects. The NCB said the operation was part of its ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking networks in the Kathmandu Valley.
