Three killed, seven injured as truck hits seven vehicles

Kathmandu, December 12

Three persons died and seven were injured after a loaded truck hit seven vehicles as its brakes failed at around 8:00pm last night, in Dhunge Adda of Chandragiri Municipality, Kathmandu.

Having hit the seven vehicles, the truck had collided with a house, damaging it. The condition of one of the injured is said to be critical.

The truck hit three two-wheelers, two cars, one bus, and one bicycle, after its brake failed, said traffic police. Ten people were mowed down. The accident occurred when the truck was enroute to Kalanki from Thankot.

Police recovered the body of one person from the accident site yesterday. The body of another man was found under the truck this morning while one more succumbed to the accident today at the hospital.

Deceased Raju Poudel, 42, of Dharke in Dhading was a hotelier at Dhungeadda. His body was found crushed under the truck this morning. Ranjeet Chaudhary, 26, of Saptari died this morning at Sahid Memorial Hospital, Kalanki. Similarly, Shanker Pariyar, 30, of Okhaldhunga was found dead at the site yesterday.

Of the injured, five are being treated at Sahid Memorial Hospital, one at Vayodhya Hospital, Balkhu, and one has been discharged from the hospital.

Senior Superintendent of Police Janak Bhattarai said, “Preliminary investigation shows that the truck might have suffered mechanical brake failure. We have taken the truck driver under control for further investigation.”

He further said that there was very heavy traffic on the road at the time of the accident and due to this reason the vehicles could not escape the unfortunate incident.
