Three Maoist victims hurt

Kathmandu, February 21:

Three Maoist victims who were staging a sit-in in front of the Singh Durbar south gate were injured in a clash with the police today.

About 100 victims of Maoist atrocities during a decade-long insurgency tried to enter Singh Durbar premises.

As they were barred from entering the premises, they squatted in front of the gate for an hour, disrupting traffic movement. Ram Kumari Dangi, Beg Adhikari and Krishna Bahadur Karki were hurt in the scuffle with the police. They returned to the camp set up at Tinkune after receiving first aid treatment. Police held the protesters for two hours.

Budhathoki said they would continue their protests till their demands were met. “We will gherao Singh Durbar for some more days to draw the attention of the government to our problems.

They are demanding Rs 10 lakh compensation for each victim family, employment for youths and return of all the property confiscated by Maoists.
