Tht watch : What’s broken

Kathmandu, January 13:

The road leading from Maternity Hospital to Panchayan Mandir Marg in Thapathali of KMC-11 has been in bad shape for almost two years now.

Big potholes and pebbles on the road have been creating troubles for locals and road

users alike.

With two big buildings under construction in the area, workers have been depositing debris on the road, worsening the condition of the already deteriorated road. The dust and grit on the road has also been contributing to the rise in air pollution in the locality.

“While furnishing our taxes at the ward office, we had requested the ward officials to do the needful to fix the road,” Dorprasad Subedi, a local resident, said.

“We also informed the officials that we were ready to collect funds for the purpose if it were necessary. But no one cared to do anything to fix the road,” Subedi lamented.

Though the road stretching from the Thapathali intersection till NORVIC hospital has been blacktopped, some 250m of the stretch is yet to be metalled.

Who’s responsible:

The people should form a users’ committee and approach us, as we have to follow administrative procedures before a decision is taken to fix any road. If a group of nine persons comes to us with a hand-written proposal, we can act on it and arrange budget for the purpose. If there is no request from the locals, we can do nothing on our own.
