Flights resume as security review clears operations; earlier closures followed violent protests in Kathmandu
KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 10
Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has officially reopened after remaining closed for two days due to complex situation in Kathmandu Valley.
According to a public notice issued by the TIA Civil Aviation Office on Wednesday, the decision to resume operations was made following a meeting of the airport's security committee on Wednesday.
All domestic and international flights, which had been suspended since September 9, are now cleared to operate.
Passengers have been advised to contact their respective airlines for updated flight schedules and to confirm ticket and baggage arrangements.
The shutdown, which began on Tuesday evening, was prompted by worsening security conditions after protests led by Gen Z demonstrators turned violent. Incidents of arson and vandalism were reported in several areas, including Gothatar, raising aviation security concerns. The Nepali Army had been deployed to provide additional security at the airport during the closure.
