Top leaders of Nepali Congress, UCPN-Maoist, Madhesi Front meet

KATHMANDU: Top leaders of the main opposition Nepali Congress, the ruling UCPN-Maoist and the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front held bilateral and trilateral meetings on Saturday.

UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and UDMF leaders Upendra Yadav, Mahantha Thakur and Mahendra Raya Yadav gathered at Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala's residence in Maharajganj this evening to discuss the resolution of ongoing agitation in Tarai-Madhes region.

According to Nepali Congress leader Arjun Narsingh KC, the discussion between Nepali Congress and the Madhesi parties centred on the contemporary political issues and resolution of the Tarai issues through the amendment of constitution.

Koirala was accompanied by General Secrtary of his party Prakash Man Singh and other leaders including chief whip Chinkaji Shrestha, Arjun Narsingh KC, Mahesh Acharya and Minendra Rija.

Prior to the tripartite talks, the Nepali Congress leaders had separately met the UCPN-Maoist and the UDMF leaders. Nepali Congress President Koirala had visited Dahal's residence in Lazimpat in the morning, while the Madhesi leaders visited Koirala's residence in the afternoon. Later, Dahal joined the NC and Madhesi leaders at Koirala's residence in the evening.
