KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 1

Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Sudan Kirati, emphasized the immediate need to amend outdated acts related to tourism.

Speaking at an event held today to mark the 50th anniversary of the Nepal Mountaineering Association, the minister called for improving the treatment of foreign tourists and the amendment of old tourism-related acts.

"We have outdated acts, and acts should evolve with time. Today, I received a phone call from Jogbani in India. A tourist had to book a five-star hotel apartment for Rs 25,000, but they complained about a provision that restricts them from carrying more than INR 25,000 in cash."

Charging foreign tourists double airfare would send a negative message. The minister stressed the importance of both the government and non-governmental organizations, as well as the private sector, taking such issues seriously.

He also drew attention to the impacts of climate change and mentioned that some restricted areas in certain places inconvenienced tourists."
