Tributes to deceased APF officer

The final rites of Armed Police Assistant Sub-Inspector Lakshman Sigdel, who died on Tuesday during a Maoist attack, were performed at Pashupati Aryaghat on Wednesday.

Immediately after being alerted that Maoists has set fire to a bus in Majhimtar, Dhading, Sigdel, along with other Armed Police Force personnel had set off towards Mauwa river. The squad was trapped in an ambush laid by the Maoist terrorists by the river, said Armed Police Force headquarters.

The terrorists wasted no time in shooting and throwing bombs at the squad. In the attack, assistant constable Dilli Ram Parajuli also lost his life. The terrorists are expected to have suffered a heavy loss in the crossfire, states the release. Meanwhile, eight suspects were rounded up in relation to the incident.

IGP Krishna Mohan Shrestha and AIG Sahabir Thapa of the Armed Police Force expressed heartfelt condolences to the mourning families and prayed for eternal peace of the brave souls who attained martyrdom in course of their duty.

Sigdel’s body was transported to Kathmandu in a helicopter and placed at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) for final tributes.

IGP Shrestha visited the hospital on Wednesday morning and paid tributes. Sigdel’s uncle Ram Bhakta Sigdel lit the funeral pyre.
