KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 7

The Tribhuvan University (TU) has launched a winter school focused on snow, weather change, and ecological impact on the mountain region.

The session, initiated by the Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, has received assistance from IRD France, Kathmandu Centre for Research and Education, and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).

The session includes a study on mountain and glacier lakes, facilitated by remote sensing technology. It is attended by 25 individuals from home and abroad, including Pakistan, Bhutan, and Thailand.

The classes are scheduled to run until December 17 with the guidance of experts. Among the participants, nine recently returned after visiting glacier lakes in Khumbu of the Sagarmatha region.

Commenting on the launch of this special school, TU Acting Vice-Chancellor Dr. Shivalal Bhusal expressed that other departments within TU should be encouraged to apply practical procedures to enhance the effectiveness of students' teaching and learning skills.

Department Chief Pro Dr. Deepak Aryal hopes that the session will inspire students towards research-based and practical education, thereby enhancing their intellectual capacity.
