Twelve-year-old Ganga admitted to Paropakar maternity hospital for delivery

Kathmandu, November 21

Ganga Maya Praja, a 12-year-old pregnant girl, from Raksirang Rural Municipality, Makwanpur, was admitted to Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital yesterday evening after Hetauda Hospital referred her to the health facility.

According to Dr Jageswor Gautam, executive director at the hospital, Ganga was admitted to the hospital at the initiative of the Prime Minister’s Office.

“Pregnancy at early age entails high risk of delivery complications,” said Dr Gautam. “Early pregnancy entails risk of high blood pressure, psychological trauma and complications in delivery such as excessive bleeding during labour. We might adopt C-section procedure, if she faces delivery complications.”

Dr Gautam said Ganga’s test results were normal and she was being given iron and calcium supplements.  “This is the first pregnancy case of a 12-year-old in the hospital,” Dr Gautam said, adding that Ganga was being given special attention.  Ganga had eloped with an 18-year-old boy from Kailash Rural Municipality 10 months ago.
