Two die as they jump from window

Kathmandu, October 6

Two persons died after they allegedly jumped off the third floor of a building that had been raided by police in Mulpani of Kageshwori Manahara Municipality-7 yesterday night for running illegal gambling parlour.

The deceased have been identified as Saroj Ghale, 43, of Kapan, Kathmandu and Somlal Tamang, 38, of Sindhupalchowk. Senior Superintendent of Police Basant Lama, in-charge at Metropolitan Police Range, claimed that they jumped from a window of the building to escape the cops. They were rushed to Gwarko-based B&B Hospital but died while undergoing treatment.

The duo had suffered critical  head, chest, hands and leg injuries due to the impact of the fall. Police said it was an accident and ruled out the possibility of suicide.

The bodies have been sent to forensic department of the Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for post-mortem.

Police have arrested 23 persons with Rs 458,225, playing cards,kauda, liquor and beer of various brands, a sword, two khukuris and gold ornaments from the gambling parlour. However, some others, including HemaGurung, owner of the gambling parlour, managed to escape police when the law enforcement officials were busy rescuing the injured ones, SSP Lama claimed. Police have also arrested Tendu Sherpa, the house owner, for further investigation.

Police had reached the house acting on information that a gambling parlour was being run there.
