Two held in possession of Pangolin scales from Kathmandu

 

KATHMAMDU: A special police team deployed from the Central Investigation Bureau reportedly arrested two persons allegedly involved in smuggling of Pangolin scales recently.

 

In a statement today, CIB said 43-year-old Kising Tshiring of Kageshwori Manahara Municipality-8 was held with 930 grams of Pangolin scales from Gotthathar yesterday.

After intense interrogation, Tshiring informed police about Maan Raj Muktan's involvement in trade of animal hides and skins.

Then, sleuth of CIB apprehended 39-year-old Muktan of Kamalamai Municipality-9 in Sindhuli district, currently residing in Maharajgunj KMC-4, with 307 grams of pangolin scales today from Maharajgunj area.

According to DSP Meera Chaudhary the duo would be booked under the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1973 and would be fined Rs 5 lakhs to Rs 10 lakhs or 5 years to 15 years in jail or both.

Meanwhile, police have sent the suspected duo to the Kathmandu District Forest Office for further investigation and action today.
