Two men killed their wives in two days

Kathmandu, November 12

Police have arrested two men in separate murder cases for allegedly killing their wives in Kathmandu in the past two days.

Forty-year-old Subash Rai was arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife to death, from their rented room in Mount Kailash Danda Kapan of Budhanilkanta Municipality yesterday.

A permanent resident of Devisthan in Khotang, Rai had brutally attacked his wife Pramila Rai, 35, with a kitchen wife in a dispute. Pramila, who had sustained multiple injuries, was rushed to Helping Hand Hospital at Chabahil with the support of neighbours.

Police said that husband frequently harassed his wife alleging illicit relationship with other men. Pramila used to run a local hotel while husband worked as labourer in construction sites.

Police said further investigation was under way.

In another incident, 65-year-old Hiralal Maharjan of Samakhusi, Kathmandu, allegedly killed his 60-year-old wife on Saturday.

A furious Hiralal struck his wife Hiradevi Maharjan with a hammer. Hiradevi was rushed to Green City Hospital where she succumbed to injuries during treatment.

DSP Gautam KC at Metropolitan Police Circle Sorhakhutte said that there were multiple injury marks on the head of the deceased. Hiralal is at large. DSP KC said a manhunt had been launched to arrest the absconding husband
