UCPN-M hints at supporting Oli for new PM

KATHMANDU: The UCPN-Maoist has concluded that a new government should be formed on the basis of the "gentleman's agreement" made in course of signing the 16-point agreement among major political parties.

That means the party is likely to support CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli in the prime ministerial election scheduled for Sunday.

Earlier, Maoist leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal had publicly said that top leaders of major parties had forged a deal to elect Oli as the new Prime Minister after promulgation of the Constitution.

Today's meeting of the party's standing committee held at the residence of party Chairman Dahal in Lazimpat decided to forward the government formation process ahead as per the previous agreement and major political parties should join it.

Stating that consensus and collaboration among major political parties were necessary for implementation of the new Constitution, the meeting concluded that it would not favour the majority government.

After the meeting, party standing committee member Agni Prasad Sapkota informed that the party also decided to hold bilateral and multilateral discussions with major political parties regarding formation of the government.
