UCPN-M to hold ‘serious talks’ with CPN-UML

The Unified CPN-Maoist has decided to hold “serious talks” with top leaders of CPN-UML before taking any decision to change the government.
After its standing committee members vehemently criticised the government led by UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli for failing to manage political problems, the Unified CPN-Maoist today decided to hold serious talks with the UML leadership.
According to Vice-Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha, the two-day standing committee meeting of the party that concluded here today decided to hold serious talks with the UML leadership on issues ranging from the peace process to cooperation among the coalition partners.
He said the talks would dwell on unity among parties for the implementation of the new constitution and speedy reconstruction,among other things.
Standing committee members of the UCPM-Maoist criticised the government for violating the Comprehensive Peace Accord.
They also warned that the coalition would be in danger if the UML leadership failed to respect the CPA.
Today’s standing committee meeting of the party also discussed possibility of unity with Mohan Baidhya led CPN-Revolutionary Maoist.
A majority of central committee members of the CPN-RM are preparing to join Unified CPN-Maoist under the leadership of Ram Bahadur Thapa.
Shrestha also said the Unified CPN-Maoist was in constant touch with the Nepali Congress and would soon hold formal talks with its leadership to discuss various issues, including formation of consensus government.
Following the meeting, General Secretary Krishna Bahadur Mahara said the government had failed to resolve problems facing the country and therefore the Unified CPN-Maoist would take the lead in resolving issues by holding discussions with parties, including the agitating Federal Alliance and main opposition party Nepali Congress.
Mahara said unity among parties was a must for implementation of the new constitution.
