UCPN-M lawmakers urge govt to resolve ongoing chaos in Tarai pronto

KATHMANDU: UCPN-Maoist lawmakers representing Tarai region urged the government to find a solution to the ongoing problems in Tarai at the earliest and to bring life back to a semblance of normalcy.

During a meeting held with Prime Minister Sushil Koirala at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar on Sunday, they lamented that the government was not serious to resolve the ongoing problems in Tarai.

PM Koirala, however, informed that the agitating Madhesi Parties and the Tharuhat/Tharuwan Struggle Committee were  invited for talks to resolve the political issues and draft the constitution.

He further made it clear that the constitution drafting process was halted for two days merely for talks.

Expressing grief over the loss of lives and properties due to agitations in Tarai districts, PM Koirala, who is also the President of the ruling Nepali Congress, said that the government has been doing its best to douse the fire burning in Tarai.

Moreover, he stated that the draft of the constitution was not final and could be changed on the basis of situation.
