UCPN-M leaders outshine Nepali Army in rights violation: Minister Bhandari
KATHMANDU: Defence Minister Bidhya Bhandari today said that during the decade-long insurgency many Maoist
leaders had violated human rights that needs to be investigated. Addressing a programme here today, Minister Bhandari said, “Maoist leaders have violated human rights more than the Nepali Army
and that some of them have already assumed the post of ministers and lawmakers.”
“But people are only raising the question against the Nepali Army,” she said, adding, “It would be unfair if we only blame the NA for violating the human rights since the Maoists killed more people during that period.”
Minister Bhandari also underlined the need for peace and reconciliation commission to investigate the violations of human rights during the decade-long insurgency by both the parties.
After the formation of CA, the Maoists formed their government, however, they were indifferent to form the commission, she added.
