UCPN-M to provide relief for victims

KATHMANDU, April 28

Claiming that the tasks of rescue, relief and rehabilitation have been ineffective, has decided to send its top leaders to support earthquake victims in different affected areas of the country.

The standing committee meeting held this morning at party headquarters in Paris Danda decided to this effect.

Today’s meeting also decided to draw the attention of the government that the victims have not received water, treatment and tents for temporary settlement.

Following the meeting, UCPN-M Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said there has been complaint that government authorities have been discriminating while distributing relief materials to victims. He said his party has taken the issue very seriously. Dahal further said his party has also decided to deploy all major leaders to the districts to rescue victims and distribute relief materials.

He further said he has urged the prime minister to form a central mechanism including members of all the parties as the government has failed to show its presence among the affected people. “Due to arbitrary management of the government, its work has not been effective,” he said.

The top three leaders Dahal, Baburam Bhattarai and Narayan Kaji Shrestha will look after central monitoring and coordination among government and international communities.

Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Ram Chandra Jha and Lilamani Pokhrel will coordinate the desk for relief collection and distribution; Giriraj Mani Pokhrel, Shashi Shrestha and Shakti Basnet will handle the health desk; and Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Dinanath Sharma and Jokh Bahadur Mahara will handle the Central Information Desk.

The party decided to deploy Agni Sapkota to Sindhupalchowk, Hitraj Pande to Gorkha, Hisila Yami to Kathmandu, Jhakku Prasad Subedi to Bhaktapur, Barshaman Pun to Lalitpur, Hit Bahadur Tamang to Nuwakot, Biswo Bhakta Dulal to Kavre, Dhawa Lama to Ramechhap, Navaraj Subedi to Rasuwa, Ganga Narayan Shrestha to Dolakha, Narayan Dahal to Makawanpur, Haribol Gajurel to Sindhuli and Devendra Poudel to Dhading.

The party has already formed a Central Rescue and Relief Support Committee under Dahal’s leadership.
