UDMF says no local polls before Constitution amendment

KATHMANDU: The United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) has concluded that holding local polls without the Constitution amendment would trigger a conflict in the country.

A meeting of the alliance that took place at the central office of Tarai Madhesi Democratic Front, Bijulibazaar, today ended with the conclusion that the local polls should not be conducted before amending the Constitution.

Briefing the media about the meeting, the TMDP Vice-Chair Brishesh Chandra Lal said the party hoped that its demands would get addressed to some extent by the Constitution amendment and it wanted this to happen before the local polls.

The meeting, accusing the Local Bodies Restructuring Commission of failing to work in line with the spirit of the Constitution, ended with the decision of meeting tomorrow again and unveiling its decisions tomorrow itself through a press meet.
