KATHMANDU, JULY 12
As soon as President Ram Chandra Paudel summoned the members of the House of Representatives (HoR) to stake a claim for the prime ministerial post in accordance with Article 76 (2) of the constitution, the major political parties in the HoR, the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML, asserted that UML Chair KP Sharma Oli should be appointed Prime Minister, reaching the President's Office on Friday night.
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML Chair Oli, in their capacities as party leaders, submitted signatures of a majority of HoR members in support of Oli's appointment as Prime Minister to the President, according to Oli's secretariat.
Earlier, President Paudel had summoned the HoR members as per Article 76 (2) of the constitution to stake a claim for the Prime Minister's position with the support of two or more political parties after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal failed to secure a trust vote in the HoR meeting.
The President set a deadline of 5:00 PM this coming Sunday for the submission.
