KATHMANDU, APRIL 9

Communist Party of Nepal (UML) Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will remain in hospital for a few days to undergo medical treatment.

He was released from police custody today. Oli had been detained for investigation based on the report of the high-level commission formed to probe the Gen Z movement incident. He had been receiving medical care in hospital since his arrest.

Chairman Oli stated that although the government had filed criminal charges against him in a prejudiced and vindictive manner and kept him in illegal custody for 13 days, he was ultimately released due to the absence of any substantive basis or evidence to proceed with the case.

Following his release, in accordance with the Supreme Court's verdict, Chairman Oli expressed gratitude to all those who had raised their voices on social media in support of his release.

Acting on the government's decision to implement the Commission's report, police had taken Chairman Oli into custody from Gundu, Bhaktapur, on March 28.
