UML finalises criteria for local level poll candidates
KATHMANDU: The main opposition CPN-UML on Thursday finalised criteria for its candidates for the upcoming local level elections.
A meeting of the party's Standing Committee held at the party Chairman KP Sharma Oli's residence fixed the criteria after concluding that the elections were sure to take place on the stipulated date.
According to the criteria set today, the district committees would pick candidates for wards of rural municipalities and municipalities upon the recommendation from concerned committees.
Likewise, the candidates for mayors and deputy mayors at municipalities would be decided by the province committees upon the recommendation from concerned committees.
The district and province committees would recommend candidates for sub-metropolitan cities and metropolitan cities and they would be decided by the Central Committee.
The party said it would look for commitment to the party, popularity, integrity, discipline and non-involvement in corruptions while selecting the candidates whereas the selection process would be inclusive.
Likewise, the meeting decided to mobilise all ranks and files of the party for the polls, the UML Secretary and Chief at the party's Publicity Department Yogesh Bhattarai informed after the meeting.
Therefore, the party has decided to form election mobilisation committee at the grassroots.
Meanwhile, the party decided to hold various mass assemblies at village, municipal and district levels in the Province No. 2. The campaign would begin on April 14.
