UML forms panels for election manifesto, coordination

KATHMANDU: The main opposition CPN-UML on Monday formed separate committees for drafting the local level election manifesto and coordination and monitoring of the poll activities.

A meeting of the party's Standing Committee meeting today made the decision to this effect, according to a statement issued by the party's Central Publicity Department chief Yogesh Bhattarai.

Vice-Chairman Bamdev Gautam leads the Local Level Election Manifesto Draft Committee. It comprises Ashtalaxmi Shakya, Bhim Rawal, Bishnu Paudel, Ghanashyam Bhusal, Pradeep Gyawali, Shankar Pokharel, Surendra Pandey, Kiran Gurung, Pushpa Kandel, Lalbabu Pandit, Binda Pandey, Radindra Adhikari, Raghubir Mahaseth and Lalbabu Yadav as members.

Likewise, General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel heads the Local Level Election Monitoring and Coordination Committee, comprising Prithvi Subba Gurung, Pradeep Gyawali, Yogesh Bhattarai, Subas Chandra Nembang, Chhabilal Bishwakarma, Beduram Bhusal, Rajendra Prasad Pandey, Raghuji Panta, Bhanubhakta Dhakal, Agni Kharel, Banshidhar Mishra, Radha Gyawali, Krishna Gopal Shrestha and Ram Kumari Jhankri as members.

Meanwhile, the party directed ward committees to recommend candidates for wards by April 12. Likewise, committees at rural municipal, municipal, sub-metropolitan and metropolitan levels should recommend candidates for the same levels by April 17.

The district committees should study the recommendations and forward them to the provincial committees by April 20 whereas the provincial committees should make the decisions by April 23.

The Standing Committee meeting would review the decisions on candidates on April 25 and finalise the decisions.

Meanwhile, the party decided that a person could file candidacy for only one election among local, provincial and federal ones, which are supposed to be held this year.
