UML forms Valley poll panel

Kathmandu, August 18:

CPN-UML today formed a 101-member Constituent Assembly Election Valley Mobilisation Committee to initiate campaign for the upcoming November 22 elections, a statement issued today said.

Party’s standing committee member Ishwor Pokhrel is the coordinator of the committee and the members include sitting and former lawmakers of the Valley, district representatives and former mayors.

A meeting of the Valley Coordination Committee also decided to organise a grand meeting of party cadres on August 25 to kick start electoral campaign. The party has decided to organise a public announcement mass meeting on August 31 at Basantapur in Kathmandu to formally appeal to the political parties and the people to accelerate the electoral process.

The meeting has also decided to organise training and orientation for party members, conduct voters’ education programme, distribution of party membership, holding corner and mass meetings and cultural programmes by September 15.

The party has also drawn the attention of the government to create a conducive environment for holding free and fair elections. It also urged the CPN-Maoists to give up violence to face constituent assembly polls through free competition.
