UML students’ body calls off stir at Sano Thimi Campus

Madhyapur Thimi, February 1:

All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU) affiliated to the CPN-UML today lifted the lock out at Sano Thimi Campus after ten days’ closure, considering the Free Students’ Union election being held on March 19.

Organising a press conference at the campus premises today, central member Shyam Basnet, president of Bhaktapur district chapter of ANNFSU, said that they were compelled to padlock the campus administration as their demands had long been ignored.

Basnet said, “We submitted a memorandum to the campus administration on August 24 the year before last, prior to going on the protest.

Earlier the campus administration agreed to fulfil their 40-point demands immediately but to no avail yet therefore they had no option to padlocking.”

Pushkar Chand, secretary of FSU and Santosh Khadka, ANNFSU president of Sanothimi campus, said that their protest would continue though they lifted the lock out considering the upcoming Free Students’ Union election.

They also alleged the campus administration of corruption and arising disputes between the student unions and warned of strong protest if the administration failed to fulfil their demands.

The students have been demanding the development of hostel for visually impaired women, proportional distribution of schola-rships, renovation of dilapidated infrastructure of campus, management of toilets for women and deduction in monthly fees.
