NC, UML to organise Deepawali to celebrate constitution commencement

KATHMANDU: Ruling coalition members Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have decided to organise a Deepawali throughout the nation on September 20, the day to promulgate the new constitution.

Issuing separate statements today, the parties have directed their  sister organisations, lower level committees, cadres and members of the general public in and outside the country to celebrate the day in a grand fashion.

The UML has also directed party cadres to organise creative programmes on September 21 to celebrate the commencement of new constitution.

Both of the parties have said that the announcement to commence the new constitution would be the historical victory of all Nepali citizens.

The NC has remarked that the new constitution would establish supremacy and sovereignty of people as well as become a new basis of national unity.

Likewise, the UML has thanked major political parties, Constituent Assembly Chairman Subas Nembang and lawmakers among others for their instrumental role for the constitution.

Though some parties and groups have been expressing their dissatisfation for not incorporating their genuine issues in the new constitution, the UML said that it has adopted utmost flexibility to deliver the new constitution.

The party has appealed to all the disgrunted parties to take part in the constitution drafting process.

Meanwhile, the CA is preparing to request the government to observe two-day public holiday on September 20 and 21. Sudarshan Kuinkel, assistant spokesperson for the CA secretariat, said the CA would take the decision on the issue tomorrow.
