KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 28
The United Nepali Diaspora Organization (UNDO) is holding its First International Convention and Annual General Meeting (AGM) on December 28-29, 2024, at the Dusit Princess Hotel in Kathmandu.
Titled "Diaspora Engagement for Sustainable Nepal," the event will bring together diaspora representatives, community leaders, local stakeholders, and changemakers from around the world to address climate change, its impact on Nepal, and the pressing issue of Brain Drain driven by climate vulnerabilities.
As Nepal faces increasing environmental challenges, including rising temperatures, erratic weather patterns, and the melting of Himalayan glaciers, the diaspora's role in advocating, innovating, and mobilizing resources for climate resilience has become more critical than ever, according to the press release issued by the UNDO.
The convention will feature sessions on the socio-economic impacts of climate change, mitigation strategies, and the potential for brain gain, where skilled diaspora professionals contribute expertise and solutions to Nepal's sustainability efforts. Successful diaspora-led projects addressing sustainability challenges will also be showcased, along with interactive workshops and panel discussions involving experts, policymakers, and community leaders.
The AGM will include the approval of UNDO's strategic plan, leadership elections, and the setting of priorities for the upcoming year.
"This convention marks a historic milestone for UNDO as we gather voices from the diaspora and Nepal to address the existential threat of climate change and its impact on our communities. Through collective action, knowledge-sharing, and diaspora engagement, we aim to drive sustainable solutions and reverse the effects of climate-driven brain drain,"UNDO emphasized.
This convention will not only highlight the climate crisis Nepal faces but also emphasize the urgent need for Brain Gain initiatives, where skilled diaspora professionals can contribute remotely or directly to Nepal's resilience strategies, the release further states.
The United Nepali Diaspora Organization (UNDO) is a non-profit organization dedicated to mobilizing the global Nepali diaspora for sustainable development, socio-economic growth, and environmental resilience in Nepal.
