Unions likely to call off stir: KMC

Kathmandu: The disruption of garbage collection continued on the seventh day today even as the government vowed to address the demands of the agitation unions through a dialogue. “There is a ray of hope that they will call off their stir tomorrow,” said Rabin Man Shrestha, chief of the Environment Management Division at the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. A talk scheduled to be held tomorrow with the Ministry of Local Development will most likely end their stir, he added.

It is estimated that 600 metric tonnes of garbage is produced every day in the Valley. On this basis, the Kathmandu Valley has accumulated 4,200 metric tonnes of garbage in seven days, which remain uncollected due to the strike of the union.
