United Sherpa Association Inc has conducted the 25th edition of Summer Sports in August and September in the United States.
According to the organiser, this edition was successfully completed with the participation of 13 inter-states teams in the matches started from 26th August and the final of the game took place in Randall's Island, New York on the 29th where Tamang FC bagged the Trophy along with the prize money of USD 5,500 defeating Baltimore FC who carried the runner up prize money of USD3300.
On the Labor Day, United Sherpa Association organised inter Chhokpa, inter state volleyball matches along with 35 football matches, shot-put (Chhelo), tug of war and potluck.
"Since United Sherpa Association (USA) Inc started its first Summer Sports 26 years ago, it was not possible to conduct it in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But, the 24th edition was held in 2021 and recently in the months of August and September the 25th edition was successfully organized," the association said in a statement.
The closing ceremony along with the prize distribution were held amidst the gracious presence of Bishnu Prasad Gautam, Consul General of Nepal and all the dignitaries from various Nepalese organizations, Sherpa Chhokpa/ society/organizations and ex-board members of Sherpa Kyidug had added to the glory of the program, statement read.
"It, in fact, is the matter of immense pride for the association's executive committee to have opportunities to celebrate the silver jubilee of its establishment as well as that of the Summer Sports."
The association also extends its heartfelt gratitude to each and everyone namely all the sponsors, volunteers, all the participating teams and the referees for making the events a grand success. "We bestow our special thanks to Ang Babu Lama for the holy chant presiding over the inaugural of the Summer Sports," it added.
