KATHMANDU: Federal Socialist Forum Nepal has dubbed the move to impeach Chief Justice Sushila Karki a planned attack on the rule of law and the government's intent to control the judiciary and intervention into judicial independence.

In a statement issued today, the party chairman, Upendra Yadav, said moving the impeachment motion was against the spirit and norms of the federal republican system.

Lawmakers of ruling Nepali Congress and CPN Maoist Centre registered the impeachment motion against Chief Justice Karki yesterday, leading to her automatic suspension.

Saying the intent to illegally influence the independent judiciary by abusing state power and authority and fulfill ones' personal, factional and partisan motives  was undemocratic, Yadav asked the stakeholders to immediately withdraw the impeachment motion and respect the judiciary.
