Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire has pointed out the need to make the role of the Parliament accountable and effective.
He urged parliamentarians to play a crucial role responsibly to uplift the dignity of the Parliament.
Inaugurating an orientation on 'Parliamentary Procedures and Practices' organised by the Federal Parliament Secretariat for members of the House of Representatives today, he said there had been some reports that some of the past parliamentary practices were not responsive to people's interest and hence it was necessary to make the parliamentary role effective.
Mentioning that the government had to play a crucial role in making the Parliament effective, he said the government should also coordinate with opposition parties in this regard.
Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan said parliamentary responsibilities could be fulfilled only through efficient adoption of parliamentary rules and procedures.
"The conduct and ideas presented here should be dignified and in accordance with parliamentary norms," he added.
Deputy Speaker Indira Rana said the role of the Deputy Speaker in the Parliament should be made effective as people viewed it only as a secondary role. She said people's representatives should be accountable to people through efficient adoption of parliamentary procedures.
