KATHMANDU, AUGUST 27
The United States has announced $500,000 in assistance for communities affected by the devastating flash floods in Rasuwa district.
The US Department of State said the assistance would be provided through its global award with Catholic Relief Services and would support emergency shelter, relief supplies, and water, sanitation and hygiene services.
The State Department also said it was closely monitoring the situation and would deploy a disaster response adviser to the region to support ongoing response efforts.
Expressing condolences to the families of those killed in the floods, the US said its thoughts were with all those affected by the disaster.
The US Embassy in Kathmandu is coordinating with local authorities to locate and assist US citizens in the affected areas. It has urged US citizens affected by the floods to follow instructions from local authorities and monitor local news for safety information.
The embassy has also advised US citizens to enrol in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive emergency and security updates.
The US Department of State said concerned American citizens seeking information about family members in Nepal could contact its emergency assistance numbers.
