US Assistant Secretary Nisha Biswal concludes Nepal visit

KATHMANDU: The United States of America's Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Nisha Biswal, concluded her two-day official visit to Nepal on Monday.

“The United States Government continues to work closely with the people and government of Nepal in order to support democratic systems and structures that improve inclusiveness, strengthen the business environment, and focus on development and reconstruction efforts,” said Biswal said in a statement issued by the US Embassy in Kathmandu on her departure.

During her stay in Kathmandu, the US official met leaders of different political parties, including Prime Minister Pushpa Kamala Dahal, and officials.

In meetings with political, business and civic leaders, according to the statement, Biswal discussed the challenges and opportunities facing Nepal ranging from transitional justice to elections.

She also looked at earthquake reconstruction progress, talked about economic opportunities and discussed other areas where the United States can potentially assist, the statement added.

The Embassy further said the United States continues to engage with Nepal to support its democracy, prosperity and stability.
