KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 21

The U.S. Embassy is currently accepting applications for the USYC 2024 cohort, with the submission deadline set for 31 December.

The United States Embassy Youth Council (USYC) is a professional development and mentoring program to assist the council members in developing leadership skills to solve critical issues in their communities. During their membership term, council members will engage in networking opportunities, design and implement civic engagement projects, and attend key strategic events. With a legacy of 12 years, the USYC alumnus community, comprising over 600 individuals, has been instrumental in catalyzing positive change through various community projects, according to the statement issued by the Youth Innovation Lab on Wednesday.

The USYC program is committed to fostering a meaningful discourse between Nepali youth and the Embassy to identify and address the challenges Nepali youths face and encourage greater engagement in community initiatives and broader civil society. Starting this year, the USYC program, under the management of the Youth Innovation Lab (YI-Lab), is dedicated to bringing together a diverse group of 50 to 55 Nepali youths between the ages of 20 to 30, chosen through a transparent process that represents Nepal's diverse social, religious, cultural, geographic, and ethnic backgrounds, YI-Lab said.

"The USYC strongly welcomes Nepali youths who are students, professionals, experts, opinion leaders, young professionals, politicians, scholars, activists, and those who are actively involved in their communities and willing to make a significant impact. The USYC encourages applications from LGBTQIA+, marginalized communities, persons with disabilities, and religious and ethnic minority communities."

Youth Innovation Lab is a not-for-profit civic tech company that empowers young minds to explore, create, and innovate. It provides a collaborative environment where youth and young professionals can collaborate, experiment, and develop groundbreaking ideas across various fields.
