KATHMANDU, MAY 20

The Embassy of United States in Nepal has felicitated a Sherpa climber for reaching the summit point of Mt Everest with a flag of US-Nepal Relations (1947-2022).

Amidst a function, Public Affairs Chief at the embassy, Garrett E Wilkerson congratulated Pasang Phurba Sherpa for successfully scaling the peak carrying the a banner of the US-Nepal Friendship team. "This success certainly helps further strengthening US-Nepal relations," Wilkerson said.

Pasang Phurba, also the director at Seven Summit Treks, along with other climbers scaled Mt Everest on May 14. Karma Tenzing, co-leader of the US-Nepal Friendship expedition, also congratulated Sherpa.

US-Nepal Friendship team will be taking the same flag to the top of Denali, the highest peak in North America. For this, a team of veteran American and Nepali mountaineers will be attempting to climb Mt Denali to mark the 75 years of diplomatic relationship between Nepal and the USA.

The expedition will begin on 02 June 2022 and will be led by Karma Tenzing of Nepal and Mark Parella of the USA. Mingma Sherpa, the first South Asian to summit all 14 highest peaks, Chhang Dawa Sherpa, the youngest person to summit all 14 highest mountains in the world until 2019 and Mingma Gyabu Sherpa, the youngest person to summit all 14 highest peaks in the world among others will be joining Denali expedition.
