US envoy concerned
KATHMANDU: The new US Ambassador to Nepal Alaina B Teplitz on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sushil Koirala at the latter’s residence in Baluwatar. During the meeting, Teplitz said the US government “shares Nepal’s concerns about the disruptions in essential supplies”, according to Dinesh Bhattarai, PM Koirala’s Foreign Affairs Adviser. Teplitz had presented her letter of credence to President Ram Baran Yadav earlier in the day. PM Koirala briefed the envoy about promulgation of the new constitution and efforts to resolve the remaining outstanding issues of Madhesi parties. Saying the constitution was a milestone, she reiterated the US government’s support to Nepal’s democratic process. She was also hopeful that efforts to resolve the current issues of Madhesi forces through dialogue would soon bear fruit, according to Bhattarai.
