US assistant secretary meets Nepali Congress chief Sher Bahadur Deuba

KATHMANDU: The United States Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Nisha Biswal, on Monday called on Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba in Kathmandu.

Accompanied by US Ambassador to Nepal, Alaina B Teplitz, Biswal had reached the Budhanilakantha-based residence this morning and had a meeting for around 50 minutes.

According to a statement issued by the Nepali Congress Central Office, various contemporary issues including implementation of the Constitution, solution of ongoing political problems in Nepal and plans to hold elections at local, provincial and federal levels were discussed during the meeting.

Deuba had told the American delegation that he was making efforts to bring ruling and opposition parties on consensus over implementation of the Constitution and economic development in the nation.

The delegation had assured Deuba of continued support to Nepal for its development initiatives.
