VDC secys plan sit-in at Baluwatar
Kathmandu, July 27:
Secretaries of the village development committees across the country are set to stage a sit-in in front of the Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar tomorrow.
“We will hold a sit-in in front of the PM’s residence and display banners and placards and also shout slogans. It is shameful that government officials have to stage sit-in to perform their duty,” said Bhuwani Prasad Ghimire, chairman of VDC Secretaries’ Protection Centre.
He said that they would handover a memorandum to the prime minister and remind him of the state’s duty to provide security to the government employees.
Over a hundred VDC secretaries today held a sit-in from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm in front of the Ministry of Local Development.
“It has been a week that we are demonstrating against the government. It is strange that government officials are staging protest but we have no other option when the authority concerned did not respond to our demands,” he said.
The centre will announce further protest programmes after paying tribute to Ramhari Pokhrel on his 13th day of demise, he said.
The Chief Election Commissioner Bhoj Raj Pokhrel had yesterday warned that the election to constituent assembly could be hampered if the strike of the VDC secretaries continued.
VDC secretaries are on strike for last ten days, seeking government security.
