Veteran actor Shrestha undergoes successful Parkinson's surgery

KATHMANDU: Senior actor Madan Krishna Shrestha has successfully undergone a surgery for Parkinson's disease at Annapurna Neuro Hospital in Kathmandu.

In a press statement issued by the hospital, it is mentioned that a team of doctors performed Deep Brain Stimulation surgery in globus pallidus part of the brain.

Dr Resha Shrestha and Dr Basanta Panta jointly performed the surgery on Thursday.

The 68-year-old actor has been suffering from Parkinson's disease for the past nine years and the symptoms were prominently seen in left side of his brain for four years.

This is the first time the hospital conducted such a surgery, the press statement reads. Now other Parkinson's patients could avail of this treatment from the health facility.

It has been learnt that Shrestha's health condition has improved. Since some problems were diagnosed in the right side of his brain, pacemaker has been installed, said the hospital.
