My victory has increased responsibility, says Deuba
KATHMANDU: Newly elected Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba said that his election to the post has added to his responsibility.
Talking to media persons at his residence in Budhanilkanta for the first time after his election to the post, he said that there is no question of winning and losing in the party's internal election.
"Responsibility has been given to me to make the party strong as well as take initiatives to resolve problems of the country."
He further said that he would move ahead by uniting all the parties in the country and added that internal democracy was practised from villages to centre level during the party's convention.
President Deuba thanked all who supported him and expressed happiness over peaceful conclusion of the convention.
He said, "I am confident that those, who did not get victory in the election, would also support me. I will move ahead taking all including Ram Chandra Poudel and Krishna Prasad Sitaula together."
Responding to a query of media persons, he said that no discussion regarding the NC joining the incumbent government has been held so far. Deuba said, "NC is a democratic party. My views alone don’t count."
He further said that the NC was of the opinion that there should be a strong opposition for maintaining check and balance in a multi-party democracy, adding that it would be a monopoly if big parties in the country run the government.
Also the former Prime Minister, Deuba, said, "The government can be dictator without a strong opposition."
Responding to another query, he expressed the view that problems would be resolved after holding discussion with dissenting parties on all issues including state delineation.
