Water resources a corrupt sector, says Rana

Kathmandu, February 6:

Former Minister for Water Resources and chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party Pashupati Shamsher Rana said today that the sector of water resources is one of the most corrupt sectors in Nepal.

“Based on my experience, I say water resources is a corrupt sector. Whatever is going on these days — dramatic agreements on mega projects every next week — cannot be free from corrupt motives,” he said at a programme on Upper Karnali Hydro Electricity Project at the Reporters’ Club.

He said that a big part of corruption in the country is related with deals made for hydro electricity projects but “the development of water resources should not mean development of corruption”.

He said efforts to exploit water resources should be free of corruption.
