Nagarik Andolan stages demonstrations against House dissolution

KATHMANDU, MAY 27

The Brihat Nagarik Andolan (Civil Society Movement) staged a protest against the act of dissolution of House of Representatives, on Thursday evening.

The group of activists that had also held several protests after KP Sharma Oli-led government dissolved the House for the first time in December 2020, took to the streets deeming the act an unconstitutional, autocratic move.

The demonstrators gathered at Maitighar Mandal in the capital with torch lights and placards containing slogans against the dissolution as well as against the government's handling of the pandemic. One of the placards read "People want vaccine, oxygen, ventilators - not vote."

"We will continue to stage creative demonstration until the government commits to work in favour of the people," the protesters warned, urging the government to correct its recent move.

The demonstrators also urged the government to provide accessible health care and vaccines against the coronavirus.
